Who says Vogue is just for fashionistas?
I have already admitted to reading O Magazine. Now I’m going to admit to reading Vogue Magazine as well. Interspersed with all the pretty pictures are some interesting and/or useful articles. The November 2012 issue has an article by Jancee Dunn called “Inside Scan” that refers to an effort going on at the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) through it’s foundation, called “Choosing Wisely”. The link is on this site. A group of 9 physician organizations including the American College of Cardiology, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American College of Physicians is seeking to define instances in which commonly ordered testing is not really necessary. In a press release the CEO of the ABIM Foundation, Dr. Christine Cassel, says “Today these societies have shown tremendous leadership in starting a long overdue and important conversation between physicians and patients about what care is really needed”. Anyone who has been reading this blog for any length of time knows I luuuuurve the sound of that!
